Recently, we obtained the application drawing of Tesla Model Y without radar version from relevant channels. Compared with the current model, the new car has canceled the ultrasonic radar system and will only rely on the vision system to achieve autonomous driving.

In October 2022, Tesla announced that the Model 3 and Model Y produced in the future will no longer be equipped with ultrasonic radar, which also means that subsequent safety and driving assistance functions will only rely on the purely visual solution of the camera. . In addition, Tesla will remove the ultrasonic radar from Model S on Model X in 2023.

Currently, Model 3/Model Y is equipped with 12 ultrasonic radars on the front and rear bumpers. Short-range acoustic radars are mainly used for parking and detecting close objects. Tesla began abandoning millimeter-wave radar last year due to chip shortages. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said: "Tesla can achieve full autonomous driving through cameras."

It is worth mentioning that because the ultrasonic radar has been cut off and the visual solution has not yet been launched, the front and rear summons, smart summons, automatic parking, and parking distance assist functions of new cars shipped from the factory are temporarily unavailable. But in the future, once these features reach performance parity with today's vehicles, they will be restored through a series of OTA updates.
